Eleanor Wasley thinks it is: Yes it is Fomes fomentarius. "We always call it 'horses hoofs' for obvious reasons. It is a perennial and grows a bit more each year so older specimens can be quite big. It is very characteristic of dead birch."
However, Malcolm Storey isn't so sure - possibly Ganoderma spp. |
