Ashodels are:
Plants arising from a rhizome with leaves rising from the base of the plant and few, if any, stem leaves. Flowers are in racemes or panicles.

Simethis are Amaryllids with:
All basal leaves and flowers in a panicle. The flower tepals are separate and spreading with woolly filaments supporting the anthers. The style is simple.


The only Northern European Simethis is Simethis planifolia and this occurs wild in the British Isles only in Western Ireland where it is called the "Kerry Lily".
