Foxley Wood View location
Foxley Wood is famous for its ancient beech tree. Unfortunately the base of the tree has shown signs of decay for some years. Rather than fell the 23 metre high tree it was decided in October 2020 to create a safe path round the tree 23 metres from its base. The crown of the tree had been pruned some years ago to prevent it from being affected by strong winds. It has responded well and new growth has probably extended its life to twice that of the average span of 250 years. It is currently estimated to be 275 years old. (Croydon Central Parks). |
